Dynamos
We caught up with Dynamos at Starz on Bonney Rd. in Virginia Beach where
they host an open mic every Thursday night. They are also performing at
Starz on the 9th of March. They are a really entertaining band and a genuinely
nice group of individuals. It makes a great deal of difference when you
get a chance to talk to people that kind of become your friend as soon
as you meet them. That is the way it is with these guys. Listening to bands
tell you how great they are day after day can get to be a drag but listening
to a band that seems to care about the music and care about those listening
to their music is a real treat. We at Splash were treated to Dynamos. Do
yourself a favor and come to Starz for a treat.
Here is some bio info on the band.
Karen Beebe
Karen hails from Pittsburgh PA (Catch her during breaks if you want
to discuss Steelers football!) and is the previous lead singer for The
House Rokkers from Tidewater VA. Karen is a celebrity in the Pittsburgh
area for recording the fight song " I Want to be a Dynamo" written for
the 2003 Pennsylvania Football State Champion Springdale Dynamos. It was
so catchy it became the name of our band! When not playing keyboards and
singing for the Dynamos on weekends,ÊKarenÊis Reading Specialist
for the Virginia Beach School system.Ê
Gary Assaid
Gary started guitar lessons at age 12 and is now one of the top players
in the Virginia Beach area. Gary has a wealth of experience - previous
bands include Corruption (1979 - 1982), Presence (1982 - 1983), Fallen
Angel (1985 - 1987), the Bobby Webber Experience (1991 -1995), High Performance
(1997 - 2001), and The House Rokkers (2005). Gary claims the highlight
of his career was playing on the USS Enterprise in front of 5000 people,
but his career isn't done yet! Maybe one day, his name will be in
lights, saying "Gary Assaid tonight"
Chuck Williams
Like the Juke Box, Chuck bought a beat up six string (a Hondo II) in
1979 and never looked back! The Dynamos bassist has played in numerous
previous bands: Harvest (Joplin MO 1979-81), Odyssey (Joplin MO 1982-85),
Slyder (Joplin MO 1986-89), Silent Reply (Knob Noster MO 1990-93), Bad
Habit (Grand Forks ND 1994-95), Tron (Co Springs CO 1997-2001), Blue Reign
(Co Springs CO 1998-2001), Drunken Intentions (Omaha NE 2001-04), and now
the Dynamos. Versed in classic rock such as the Beatles, Stones, Santana,
CCR, Zeppelin and the like, Chuck and the music of the Dynamos is a natural
fit.
Marty Germain
The heart of rock and roll is the beat, and Marty Germain provides it
for the Dynamos! Born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Marty
played his first song on stage at age five (a rousing rendition of
"Wipeout" earned a 5$ tip!). Marty's previous band experience includes
stints with Bobby Buttram and the Trainmen, Kountry Kin, Jerry Jaramillo
and Rough Cut, Blue Pearl Now Holly, the Speed Bumps, Larry Berwald and
the Breezeway Project, plus several bands in Europe while serving in the
US Army. When not drumming for the Dynamos, Marty can be found hard
at work at Home Depot or spending time with his lovely wife Christine.
