Dominion Derby Girls

Jeanne Noonan #34DD Mother Jugs - Dirty Diesel Darlins

What do you think has made roller Derby in to the new sport phenomena it has become in just a few years? It's because roller derby is different! First of all, we are a grassroots sport, which means we aren't owned by "the man." That means you won't ever see a bout delayed because we're too busy stipulating that each player needs 1.8 million dollars to play a game! Secondly, I think we combine the best of all sports into one! Where else do you get to see speed, agility, hard hits, wild take downs, and it's all on roller skates played by amazing women in crazy uniforms? If you are a fan of any sport, I think you can get into roller derby. It may take you a little while to learn the rules or figure the game play out, but once you do, you just can't stop watching it!

Describe how you would typically prep before a bout, in other words-what gets you pumped and prepared to win?

I have the worst pre-bout nerves ever. I'm always worried I won't play well or let my team down. So I usually spend the day of a bout trying to keep calm, making sure I eat the right food, maybe watch a movie, and listening to Motorhead or Dio nonstop. Shannon Ruff #1979 (THE Ruffian)- Dirty Diesel Darlins Do you have any personal goals when facing each competition(bout)? My goal is to always skate to the best of my abilities and to put all my training to use. As a jammer I want to score as many points as I can for my team. As a blocker I want to focus on taking out the other team's jammer while helping my jammer get through the pack. What got you started in Roller Derby? A friend of mine told me that he had heard there was a Roller Derby league in town. We both thought it was a good opportunity to photograph, so we went to a local rink where they were practicing. I met the few girls there were at the time and was hooked immediately after getting a brief explanation of the game. The next week I came and strapped on some skates, and the rest in history. That was a year and half ago.

Describe how you would typically prep before a bout, in other words-what gets you pumped and prepared to win?

I play better when I am super busy all day long. I cannot just lie around and relax all day. It messes up my concentration. I will stay busy running errands, cleaning, taking care of my dogs, my daughter, etc. Then I leave myself just enough time to get dressed into my uniform and fishnet tights (I am a Harlet at heart!) and I check all my protective gear, down to the mouth guard.... and we load up in the truck and go! My husband is my biggest support, right beside my daughter!!

What can the fans expect at your bouts

Fans can expect a whole lot of adrenaline at our bouts! Bouts are extremely exciting, definitely an understatement! What are better than a bunch of girls in short skirts beating each other up on roller skates?! Not to mention we serve beer! Who wouldn't have fun!! My parents even love it!
